Anna Kinderman

President

Hi! I’m a second year PhD Student in the Physics Department. My research interests are gravitational strong lensing for cosmology, particle astrophysics, and plasma physics. I am very passionate about science outreach, as well as fitness, art and music. Looking forward to a great year for SCOOP!

Aarna Garg

Secretary

Hi I’m Aarna and I’m a fourth year astrophysics major. My research interests are broad, from dark matter, supermassive black holes, and plasma to the star formation rates of galaxies. Outside of physics I love to read, watch movies, and hike. I’m excited to be a part of SCOOP this year and connect with the physics community here on campus and throughout Santa Cruz!

Connor McSorley

No-Jargon Talks Coordinator

I’m a fourth year undergrad in the Astrophysics Department. My current research is on very-high-energy emissions from black holes and rare particle decays. In my free time I like to play chess, make music, and go backpacking. I’m excited to be part of SCOOP and work toward growing the physics community!

Lucas Brown

Social Media Manager

I’m a second year PhD student in the Physics Department. My research interests are broadly
centered around gravitational waves, multimessenger astrophysics, black holes, and dark
matter. In my personal life, I like playing piano, climbing, photography, and doing science writing!

Ethan Steelberg

Events Coordinator

I’m a fourth year undergraduate in the astrophysics program. I do research in galaxy cluster cosmology and am very passionate about making physics accessible, both inside and outside of the department. Some of my hobbies include photography and reading sci-fi.
